THAILAND
Bangkok

Stay away from Koh San Road. Its become a hub for westerners, its like an Ibiza in Thailand and one that may horror the newcomer or disappoint the old timer. Busy bars, foul smells and every type of degree you could dream off being offered for just two thousand baht.

We stayed in a 4* Hotel called D'ma Pavillion. Its near Siam Square, away from the hustle and bustle of Koh San. We got a special rate for internet booking, so maybe you could have a link.I can't remember the site, I know its crap, but in 32 degrees, ninety percent humidity the heat clouds my brain. Anyway, Dbl room, new A/C, hot water, queen bed, satellite, great views, eighth floor pool all for one thousand five hundred baht for the room per night including an international breakfast that was internationally excellent.

Update on Koh San Road
Went back in September 03 to find things much improved. Still not the best place to find bargains unless you are really great at negotiating, but most of the food places looked better and we had a great cheap meal there. Need to check whether the places to stay are now better value for money

THAILAND

TAXIS and travelling. If you don't minding spending time in a tailors shop, then a tuk tuk can get you around the city cheaply. If you use taxis, make sure you get a metered one. If you can make use of it the Skytrain, metro system is cheap and cool

VISAS

Do not be tempted to buy a visa in Thailand. Make your you leave the country and then return. The political situation has resulted in the Thai authorities checking passport very carefully. Make sure your stamps are valid!
